Generally, freshly baked cupcakes will last a maximum of two days when stored at room temperature. Make sure to store them in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out. However, any cupcakes made with frosting containing dairy or eggs should be refrigerated almost immediately. When covered with foil or plastic wrap, refrigerated cupcakes will last no longer than a week. Freezing your cupcakes, as opposed to refrigeration, will extend their life and maintain their freshness for up to 6 months.
The best solution will always be a clay, paperboard cupcake box. They're built specifically for the purpose of maintaining the quality of your cupcake, reducing motion during transport and keeping them at a safe, equal distance from each other with the help of an insert. But make sure the holes of your insert match the size of the of your cupcakes base.
